£6.75–£12, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Majestic

I should start by explaining the weirdly large price range. The recommended retail price (rrp) of this Beronia Rueda Verdejo 2024 is a very fair £12, but there are currently some massively tempting offers, the best of which is at Sainsbury’s where, until 1 November, you can get it for as little as £6.75 in a mix of 6 or more bottles. Hard to believe, but I’ve just checked my maths by lobbing bottles into a basket online.
By all means scroll down for the rest of the offers straightaway, but come back to hear about the wine: an aromatic dry white with citrus, herb and meadow-flower aromas and a palate combining zippy lime with delicate almond nutty richness and a refreshing twist of bitter peel on the finish.
It’s made from the Verdejo grape, one of Spain's gems, in the Rueda region on the Duero river in Castilla y Leon (the village of Rueda lies about 170km northwest of Madrid) and it’s unoaked but aged on its lees for that little touch of richness.
It makes a very good aperitif or superior party wine and also goes well with sushi, most fish and seafood, including crab, oily fish such as mackerel, fish and chips and fritto misto, most vegetables, nuts and seeds, cheesy polenta and many cheeses. 13%. Empty bottle weight: 417g.
